Mental health care services are provided by the following specialists:

Psychiatrist (child and adolescent psychiatrist) – a doctor who has acquired knowledge in various fields of medicine during general medical studies and has completed a specialized residency program in psychiatry. During consultations, psychiatrists use psychological counseling methods and prescribe medication when necessary. Taking into account the individual needs of the patient, the psychiatrist involves other specialists (psychologists, social workers, physical therapists, doctors from other fields) in the treatment process.

Psychologist – a person who has completed psychology studies at university. During the consultation, the psychologist listens to the person without judgement and helps them to find the most effective ways to solve their problems. The psychologist does not give advice, but acts as a companion to the person seeking a way out of emotionally difficult situations. Psychologists consult both people experiencing psychological difficulties and people with mental disorders. Psychologists are not authorized to prescribe medication. To obtain a diagnosis or prescription, they recommend the person to consult a psychiatrist.

A psychotherapist is a doctor (usually a psychiatrist) or psychologist who, after studying medicine or psychology at university, has completed a postgraduate program in a specific treatment method – psychotherapy. Psychotherapists, like psychologists, treat patients through conversation, but analyze problems much more deeply than during psychological consultations, based on a specific psychotherapeutic paradigm (e.g., cognitive-behavioral, existential, psychodynamic, etc.).

A social worker is a person who has completed social work studies at university. A social worker assesses the needs of an individual and/or their family in relation to social services, helps to solve emerging social, employment, leisure, and other problems, refers them to other specialists, and provides information about various social services at their workplace or other institutions.
